How do you know when to replace your tennis grip?

What do I look for?

First answer is when the grip looks either used or dirty (amazing how ugly a grip can get after sweating on it for a while).
It is a good practice to change it at least when you change your strings (remember that you change your strings as often in the year that you play in a week, and no less than every 6 months).
One advise: good grips can cost $6 or $7 in a tennis shop. One solution is to use overgrips. If you put a good grip on (I use one with ‘contour’) then use a good quality overgrip like the Wilson Pro (white or grey) on top. The overgrip is thin, so it doesn’t alter your grip size, and is inexpensive enough that you can change it often (once a month?) and the grip remains untouched.

I’m a complete beginner at the game of tennis, but I really want to learn. Any suggestions??

I have never played tennis before, but I really want to learn. Does anyone know of any good places to take lessons from in the Knoxville TN area???

I don’t really know,but try to get a coach!!

Which type of tennis grip do the pros prefer: overgrip or replacement grip?

I guess I’m just trying to figure out if one of them is like an amateurish option.

Usually you don’t use replacement grips because that is like the stock grip that your racquet would come in, but it is an option. However its far easier just to put an overgrip over it and then when it gets dirty, take it off and put another one on. This is what most of the pros do, and some popular overgrips they use include Tournagrip and Wilson pro overgrip. Hope that helps

Beginner Tennis Help!!! Please!!?

I’m thinking about taking up a new sport and i thought tennis might be a good one. (or golf). So i have a few questions.

give me a list of what i need
how much is a racket and lessons??
Any good websites for begginers??
Okayy question!!

are regular tennis shoes ohk or are there special shoes for the sport tennis.
do you have to wear a skirt??

I love tennis, I just started playing a year ago. If your serious about it get a good racket that will cost around 200-300 dollars mine was 240, if your not sure and just want to try it out get a cheaper racket at dicks for about 20-100 dollars. The trickiest thing to learn is your serve, up until 2 weeks ago I was using the wrong grip so don’t make the same mistake i did and learn the continental grip for your serve (it will feel weird) but it will improve your game. Three different serves are a flat serve, slice, and topspin or kick serve. The flat serve is what beginners usually start off with but it is a horrible habit to break. The next thing to really learn is spins. It’s really the only way to play matches competitively. There’s topspin and backspin. Topspin allows a player to hit the ball with a lot of power and still have it land in play, It also allows the ball to bounce higher making it harder for you opponent to hit. It’s really not that hard to learn, just hard to master. Backspin is different it slows the ball down so you can get re situated and makes the ball slow down and bounce real slow. If there is enough spin on the ball it can even bounce on your opponents side of the court and then back on yours which is really cool. Other then that, I would say get your friends to play with you that’s what I did and now we play probably 5 times a week, and practice makes perfect. Also I would reccomend trying out for your schools team

Tennis camps for a beginner?

I’m really interested in playing tennis seriously. I’m starting private lessons at the country club, and I was wondering how long do you think it would before I would be able to make a team? I can’t decide if I want to do a junior team at my neighborhood or the team at my high school? I definitely want to be really comfortable and confident with the game before I join a team though. What camps could help me out?
And when should I try out for a team, and which one should I try out for?

Tennis camps are great for improving. Before you join a team, at least be sure you can serve the ball, and be able to hit forehands AND backhands.

Can you use just Electric Tape for a Tennis Grip?

I’m just trying to cover up a worn out grip, would electic tape be a good idea for a Grip tape for a Tennis Racquet??
Thanks I bought a new grip and a new racket :D

Just by new tape, it’s not too expensive and electric tape will probably peel easily when you use it from the moisture of your hand sweating and rubbing on it.

What kind of tennis racket should I get?

I’m interested in tennis, and I’ve gotten four beginner-level, compulsory lessons at school. I turned 13 just a couple weeks ago, and I’m a bit weak and a slow runner for my age. I know that heavy and head-light rackets are safest for tennis elbow, but because I’m not very strong I’d like to start with a racket between 8 and 10 oz. And if it helps, I’m 5′4". What tennis racket do you recommend?

Well the heavy and head-light rackets are player’s rackets, aka for good people. So I would recommend a light (under 11 oz) racket that is head-heavy. Since you are a beginner you will probably miss the ball, so an oversized racket will help. Also you probably can’t generate your own power, so the head-heavy racket provides it. Good Luck!
