How to care for my tennis racquet grip?
My racquet’s grip is starting to crack when i grip it and it starts to flake away when it’s rubbed. Is there anything i can put on it to…. moisten it.. i guess.. and help it last?
Two choices – an overgrip or a replacement. The grips are not meant to last forever. Overgrip, however, will make the grip feel bigger – depending on how sensitive you are, it may be less than ideal. Overgrips are cheap and come in different ‘flavors’ – tackiness, tread patterns, and colors (pink is available). Replacement grips are more expensive, but they will last longer than an overgrip and not lead to bulking up of the handle. You can put either one on by yourself – it is not difficult and a necessary skill to have if you are serious about the game and don’t have "people" who would that for you.
Tennis players or people who have played tennis?
I’m a tennis beginner, and I LOVE THE SPORT!
Anyways, I take group lessons once a week. For two months. The second session is this week. So since, i’m really interested in it, and want to improve, if I go to the park everyday, and hit the ball against the wall, improving my strokes and stuff, will I improve? (I can do about 8 streaks though, their not very good, and i’m trying) For about one hour.
Any other ways to improve? Tips? When I hit against the wall, where should I aim for? Like 2 meters above the ground? I don’t know how tall the tennis net is.
That’s how I learned.
When I got interested in tennis a few years ago I didn’t have any friends who played and my dad couldn’t play with me every time I wanted to. So, I got my racket and a ball and went into my driveway and hit against the side of our brick house. I became addicted to it very quickly. I made a game of seeing how many times I could keep the ball in play against the wall. At first I sucked and I could only do it about 2 or 3 times before something screwed up. But the more I did it the better I got and I could see immediate results on the court.
A wall is really good too because you can focus solely on technique, The better the technique, the more the ball comes back.
It took me quite a while to be able to sustain a super long streak (multiple, multiple weeks), but I enjoyed every bit of it.
When hitting aim about three feet high on the wall. I try to get pretty close to that three foot mark when I hit.
Your group lessons should help a lot too. The instructor will teach you technique and you can use that knowledge to get endless repetitions on the wall.
Happy Hitting
I’m 5′9" a boy and I have a tennis grip of 4 0/8 and I have questions?
I use 4 0/8 grip with a small overgrip. This works pretty good especially on the serve but it sometimes twists in my hands and it’s awkward returning drop shots and hitting swing volleys. Should I just get another overgrip or should I get the same racquet in a bigger size like 4 1/8?
I would really recommend buying the same racket in a bigger grip size because you’d have to put a few overgrips on the handle and it would be a lot better if you just got a new one. If money’s a problem, you could try a replacement grip because those can get really thick.

What tennis racquet should I get?
I am a VERY basic beginner. I have only played twice (with a 5th grader, just hitting it back and forth for fun) but I want to take lessons be on the tennis team this fall. I tend to hit the ball too hard and it goes out all the time..
it would be good if you could demo some racquets prior to buying. i can only suggest heavier frame (11 oz – 12 oz) if you tend to overshoot. that way you can learn controlling your power. good luck with your lessons and hop you can make it on the team. hope this helps
